Zelda Producer Says There Will Be No DLC For Tears Of The Kingdom

Between great reviews – you can read Game Informer’s right here – and excellent sales that led to Nintendo having a record-breaking quarter, there’s no question The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a success for Nintendo. Despite that success, though, it seems the company is moving on from this Hyrule as Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed there will be no DLC for the game.

That’s what he told Japanese magazine Famitsu in a new interview, as translated by Genki_JPN on Twitter. Based on his comments, the team behind TOTK might be moving on to a new Zelda game in a new Hyrule, too.

“We have no plans to release additional content this time, but that is because we feel like we have done all we can do to create play in that world,” Aonuma told Famitsu, according to Genki. “This time, the reason we decided to make a sequel to the previous game in the first place was because we thought it would be worth experiencing new ways to play in Hyrule. If such reasons arise, then we may return to the same world. Whether it is a sequel or new work, I think it will be a completely new way to play, so I hope you will look forward to it.”

TOTK director Hidemaro Fujibayashi told Famitsu, “We are very grateful that so many customers have been playing Tears of the Kingdom for so long and deeply, so we will do our best to make the next title even more enjoyable,” according to Genki.

Aonuma keeps the door open for a return to this Hyrule, of course – this Hyrule has made Nintendo a lot of money, after all – but it seems pretty clear the team is planning to move on to something different, perhaps an entirely new branch of the Zelda series. Only time will tell, and if TOTK’s development is anything to go off, it might be years before we learn more.
